Welcome to Big Wheel Tours. Since 1998, we have been conceiving and producing first-class bicycle tours in the greater Palm Springs area.
We are committed to the belief that a bicycle is an excellent mode of sightseeing. It allows you to see, smell and hear more than you would from behind the wheel of an automobile while at the same time creating the natural high that good, outdoor exercise produces. What a perfect marriage of travel and exercise to showcase the beauty of our fabulous desert!
We provide everything your group needs for a morning or afternoon of cycling fun: bikes, helmets, water bottles, snacks and refreshments, guides and support vehicles. All you need to do is show up and ride and we will customize the tour to suit your needs.

Tours
Big Wheel Tours designs tours for all ranges of cycling experience and ability. Our tour listed below is easy enough to be manageable for the novice cyclist yet provide plenty of variety for the intermediate to advanced cyclist on vacation. Our Mountain Bike Tours can be designed to fit the needs of nearly any client. Each tour features a brief history on the various regions of the Coachella Valley and the surrounding mountains.
In addition, we can create a custom tour ranging from a leisurely cruise through the valley to an off-road romp in the mountains. The following tours may be scheduled for morning or afternoon with a start time dependant upon your needs.
The Earthquake Canyon Express - Riders are treated
to a geologic extravaganza on this 20 mile tour that descends through the heart of the San Andreas Fault zone on a paved road to the heart of grape country near Mecca.
There are no cross roads, no turns, and very little traffic which makes this a relaxing sightseeing adventure. Riders will see the stark beauty of the desert as they descend a total of 1200
feet over the route.
The course takes riders from the transition zone
between the Colorado and Mojave Desert, winds its way through the narrow canyon
walls of Box Canyon and finishes with spectacular views of the Salton Sea,
Mt. San Jacinto, the All-American Canal, and the agriculture of the eastern
Coachella Valley. The tour finishes with a visit to the Oasis Date Gardens for a date shake and restroom break.
Departs daily 8 am and 1 pm (7 am only from 6/1 to 9/1)

For the more adventurous cyclist, Big Wheel Tours has several Palm Springs area mountain biking
tours to choose from. These rides provide participants a chance to get out
of the Coachella Valley and enjoy the beautiful wilderness scenery that lies beyond the resort development. These rides require a minimum 40-minute shuttle ride each way (included
in tour price) and offer temperatures several degrees cooler than what
riders experience down in Palm Springs. Most off-road tours require
a four-hour minimum commitment. Group sizes are smaller for these rides and
we offer tours for all abilities. Call to arrange an off-road tour for your
group.
How it Works
Our Palm Springs area mountain bike tours are booked on a customized, group by group basis. We set aside a four to six hour time frame, hardtail mountain bike, snacks, water, transportation, expert guide, and carry all of the permits required for the ride. When our guide picks you up for the ride he will decide which route is best suited for your abilities. Prices range from $105 - $150 per person based on group size.
